ABSTRACT
This study aimed to develop an Ethnomathematics Smart Box as an interactive learning medium to improve elementary students’ learning outcomes in three-dimensional geometry. The study employed a Research and Development approach using the ADDIE model, comprising Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The Smart Box integrated ethnomathematics based on Tegowangi Temple, Contextual Teaching and Learning, and hands-on activities. Participants included fifth-grade students at SDN Sukorame 2, Kediri. Data were collected through observation, interviews, expert validation, questionnaires, and pretest-posttest assessments. The results showed that the Smart Box achieved an overall validity score of 92.13%, categorized as very valid. Practicality assessments yielded an overall score of 92.32%, indicating that the medium was very practical. Students’ mean learning outcomes increased from 61.56 on the pretest to 84.31 on the posttest, with an N-gain score of 0.59 in the moderate category. A paired-samples t-test revealed a statistically significant difference, t(31) = −12.84, p < .001. The findings indicate that the Ethnomathematics Smart Box is a valid, practical, and effective medium for supporting students’ understanding of three-dimensional geometry while connecting mathematics with local cultural heritage.
