To Study the Organisation and Functioning of Medical Record Department of a Tertiary Level Govt. Hospital

ABSTRACT

The most important database of treatment of the patient is the medical records. Consistent recording by doctors, nurses and other staff is proof of proper monitoring of the health, planning and treatment. The Medical Records Department (MRD) has become an indispensable department in every hospital, which provides several services not only to the patients but also to running a hospital efficiently and plays a key role in health care management. Thus, assessment of the services provided in this department is important. The current study was an observational study conducted in the medical record department of a 500 bedded tertiary care government hospital in Haryana. The present research not only studied the organisation and functioning of Medical Record department in a government run medical college and hospital in a rural setting, but also tried to identify the problems relating to it and recommended the ways to improvise, strengthen and modernise the department, so that there is improvement in efficiency and effectiveness of Medical Record Department.
